longest conveyor belt on earth for the
transport of crushed limestone from India to Bangladesh.
PHOENIX Conveyor Belt Systems GmbH of Hamburg, Germany and PHOENIX
Yule Limited of Kalyani, India have been awarded a multi million dollar
contract for the supply of 35 km of Phoenocord
steel cord conveyor belts for the Lafarge Surma Project in
India/Bangladesh.
It is a single flight operation without booster drives incorporating the
longest conveyor belt on earth. This extremely long conveyor belt, type 800

from the mine site in Meghalaya/India to the cement
plant in Chattak/Bangladesh. The cement plant will produce 1,2
million t/a.
The 17 km conveyor track runs for about 7 km across
hilly terrain, to the international border of India, and then another 10 km
in the farthest northern part of Bangladesh. The belt runs
elevated at a height of between 5 to 15 m. The conveyor belts will be
shipped on 89 reels, which are up to 4,4
m long and 3,4 m high, containing up to 500
m of conveyor belt each.
The conveyor belts will be spliced at two stations, one each in India and
